They show my interest for still life subjects viewed through detail to the point that they often become abstract objects, forms and masses. In my search for abstraction I also very much work on colours and textures, which give an extra painterly feeling to my images.
I am of Italian origin, I was born in Brussels (Belgium) where I used to live until I moved to London 10 years ago.

GRUPO DE INTERFERÊNCIA AMBIENTAL - BAHIA
Soluções práticas para utilidade pública
Sanitários
Esteticamente na conclusão clássica, os sanitários químicos públicos formam uma “bela” composição modular, afixados em espaços reservados e praticamente excluídos das principais vias do circuito do carnaval de Salvador na Bahia. Porém, a praticidade e a qualidade aglutinadora de gente, dos tapumes que protegem os edifícios e dos becos que entrecortam as vias, utilizados popularmente como sanitários ao céu aberto por ambos os gêneros geralmente agrupados, tornam-os muito mais belos que quaisquer banheiros instalados por instituições. A beleza aí impregnada destitui os ideais de belo como deleite estético levando para o campo da beleza, encontrada nas inúmeras possibilidades de situações que podem vir a surgir, a partir destas novas imagens. Assim, desprovidos de pudor, nos circuitos principais da festa onde está concentrada a maior quantidade de foliões compõe-se imagens de atitude.
Estas imagens, serviram de discurso para as ações que verificam a apropriação destes espaços-sanitários, escolhidos “públicos”, como manifestação da fala de libertação estética dos grandes agrupamentos humanos.
GIA – Grupo de Interferência Ambiental, coletivo de artistas que atuam nos espaços públicos fomentando um discurso estético condizente com a contemporaneidade.

Almandrade se desempeña desde hace más de 30 años tanto en las artes plásticas, como en la arquitectura, el diseño y la poesía. Participa en varios salones internacionales entre los que destacan las XII, XIII e XVI Bienales de Sao Paulo, y la muestra especial de la XIX Bienal de Sao Paulo "En Busca de Esencia". En 1974 edita la revista "Semiótica", proyecto del Grupo de Estudios del Lenguaje de Bahía, del cual fue uno de sus creadores. Desde 1975 realiza más de veinte exposiciones en Salvador, Recife, Río de Janeiro, Brasilia y Sao Paulo, y escribe en varias publicaciones especializadas sobre arte y arquitectura. En los años 1981 y 1982 recibe premios del Museo de Arte Moderno de Bahía, en 1986 de Fundarte en el XXXIX Salón de Artes Plásticas de Pernambuco, y en el año 1997 es galardonado con el premio "Copene de Cultura e Arte". En marzo de 2002 su obra es incluida en la exposición "Brazilian Visual Poetry" organizado por el Mexic-Arte Museum de Texas, Estados Unidos, y entre julio y agosto de 2002 se realiza una retrospectiva de su obra en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Río de Janeiro, Brasil. Asimismo, ha editado los siguientes libros de poesía y trabajos visuales: "O Sacrifício do Sentido", "Obscuridades do Riso", "Poemas", "Suor Noturno" y "Arquitetura de Algodão".

Ação “poético-política” para o desencadeamento de dispositivos capazes de provocar situações inusitadas em locais específicos - as barcas Rio-Niterói - onde a relação com o espaço se dá muitas vezes de modo mecânico e entorpecido devido às relações do biopoder (controle do corpo e controle da mente, como afirma Foucault).
Assim como o bater de asas de uma borboleta pode desencadear um ciclone em um continente distante (Teoria do Caos), uma determinada quantidade de água contida em um recipiente plástico (água engarrafada para ser consumida em larga escala) misturada ao grande volume de água contida na baía, com todos os tipos de poluentes químicos e orgânicos resultantes do constante progresso do Ocidente (lembrando que nós, brasileiros, somos “ocidentais”), pode desencadear efeitos de proporções desconhecidas e invisíveis, mas ainda assim relevantes.
Quanto tempo as águas levarão para se misturar às do continente asiático?
Uma água só. O mar.
Esta ação se coloca como a primeira de uma série de outras semelhantes: água mineral ao mar!
A insistência será transformadora, elemento provocador de diálogo com o local, seus transeuntes e com a arte contemporânea.

“Momentary Monuments”
Digitally-based color photographs, these images attempt to capture transitory moments in public and transform them into something more timeless. Caught in a strong sidelight, lifted out of the context of the street, the individuals seem immersed in a private drama. Each person becomes a kind of monument.
Shot from the waist with a palm-sized camera, the photos perform a random sampling of attitudes and emotions. Often the subject’s eyes are closed or hands clasped in concern; they pivot around or reach out as if in compassion.
Something draws their attention just beyond the edge of the frame.
In their gestures and colorful fabric, the people are reminiscent of religious figures in Italian Renaissance art. I like how the everyday, rough-edged quality of the street is changed into something more painterly. To me the individuals become devotional, meditative, and vulnerable.

ANNA DUMITRIU - REINO UNIDO
For along time my work has been concerned with the subject of
immortality, trying to develop an understanding of the scientific background to the
subject from HeLa Cells to genetic engineering and various other forms
of therapy used to prolong life. I have created a large body of work based
on Vitamin C molecules, human cell biology and DNA but I have also become
increasingly interested with literary representations of immortality,
from Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray to Anne Rice and most importantly Bram
Stoker's
vampire creations.
This year I travelled to Romania to visit sites famous to the story of
Dracula, including Sighisoara where Vlad Dracul (Vlad The Devil) lived
and where his son Vlad Tepes (Vlad The Impaler), known as Draculea, was
born. I also visited Bran Castle (known as Dracula's Castle) where Vlad Tepes
was imprisoned and Galati on the Danube where the literary creation Dracula
travelled to when fleeing Van Helsing. The historical truth of 'Dracula' is
far removed from the literary creation and Vlad Tepes is considered a
great historical hero by The Romanian people who find tourist's fascination
with Vampires as frankly hilarious. Nevertheless Transylvania continues to
be a land steeped in superstition and ritual and the architecture and
atmosphere, where men dress as goats and beat drums to ward off evil spirits, is
not unlike that described by Bram Stoker. This is even more impressive when
you realise that Stoker never set foot in Romania.
I am interested in why the idea of the vampire has become such a
cultural
icon and a huge fascination for people and I am interested in it's
representations in popular culture. I used digital technology to remove
all
the kitsch and all the tourists paraphanalia and recreate the
atmosphere of
the old movies I watched as a child.

Semióticas del wc
Semióticas del wc se plantea como una reflexión sobre los procesos de socialización que conducen a la construcción de las esferas sociales, políticas y psicológicas que delimitan lo público y lo privado, siendo parte de una línea de investigación abierta en algunas de las últimas piezas que he venido realizando. En las lindes imprecisas de estos ámbitos, ciertos baños públicos se configuran como espacios de transgresión de la norma, estableciéndose como zonas de resistencia donde una sexualidad transfronteriza explora los límites de lo tolerado.
En el documento previo a la acción, el artista se encerró en los baños públicos de la estación de Atocha en Madrid, donde son frecuentes las intervenciones de control social ejecutadas por los cuerpos de seguridad privada. La acción devino, en este caso, en un ejercicio político en el que se utilizaron las instituciones públicas para denunciar los mecanismos inherentes a su propia ejecución. Partiendo de fragmentos de reclamaciones y denuncias previas redactadas en un estilo descriptivo por personas anónimas, el artista denunció los acontecimientos que transcurrieron en su encierro.
Cómo solución de continuo, en la acción que se desarrolla en Sevilla se exploran siete claves que juegan papeles definitorios de este conflicto: e de escondite, d de deseo, l de limpio, a de ansia, s de sexo, p de público, m de máscara.

Science, and is currently a studying Interactive Telecommunications
at New York University. His work explores the boundary between the
virtual and real, between life and living. He has exhibited
throughout the US and Canada.
About these pictures:
These portraits are from a series entitled "A Scanner Darkly". The
title is a reference to a novel by Philip K. Dick which explores the
degeneration of an undercover policeman's mind into multiple parts.
The portraits were taken on a flatbed scanner using an innovative
technique to capture time-based elements.
